Horse Facilitated Coaching

Horses are beautiful reflections of our deepest thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A HORSE FACILITATED COACHING SESSION
(AKA REFLECTIVE ROUND PEN SESSION)

The horse facilitated learning and coaching experience brings the horse and human into a partnership for providing personal and professional growth for the individual. It is based on the philosophy that through interacting and creating relationships with horses, a person may explore and learn new ways of understanding how they interface with the world around them.

During your session with horse, the horse’s nature brings to the surface aspects of the client that they may have been previously unaware of at all. Sometimes it is easier to learn a life lesson about ourselves from a 1,000 pound animal than another human being.

The session begins with meeting the herd, engaging in a 15 minute body scan with the facilitator (me), and then working through the mind body method to bring increased awareness to your body and how you are feeling. Once that is completed, you will be asked to go into the round pen with the horse. You will work with the horse and me (as co-facilitators) during your session.

There is no pressure to perform with the horse. You are not training the horse in any way, the round pen is merely used as a common meeting place for you and the horse. I will guide you through some self-exploration through prompting questions about how you are feeling.

You are in charge of the session and can continue it or end it when you wish. Once you feel complete or have received some valuable information during your round pen session, we will sit outside of the round pen to allow some time to debrief the session.  After that, you may wish to write in a journal or spend a few minutes reflecting on what experience you had with the horse in the round pen.

Horse Facilitated Coaching may take place in individual, private sessions or in a group format during a workshop or retreat.

In a retreat or group setting, the other participants will be seated outside of the round pen holding space.  As this is a sacred and vulnerable experience,  we will ask those outside of the round pen to simply hold space for healing.  Participants holding space will be monitoring their own internal sensory awareness noting energetic shifts for themselves.

Following your session in a workshop or retreat environment, we will spend some time debriefing with the group. At that point, you might wish to take some time away from the group to write in a journal or spend a few minutes reflecting on what experience you had with the horse in the round pen.

G and I look forward to co-facilitating your reflective round pen session.
